New Tunes Tuesday - Michael Penn vs. Great Lake Swimmers

I love the simple beauty and sadness of this Michael Penn song from the '90's. This is an acoustic version from when Penn was on the Letterman Show:

Penn's debut album, March:

A more recent song that brings to mind the same degree of longing, and perhaps a bit of the sadness that Penn's song evoked?  The Great Lake Swimmer's Rocky Spine:

  1. For me, "No Myth" wins, hands down. When it was released in 1990, I was in my Hi-NRG/Techno phase, but this song grew on me as I saw/heard it again and again on MTV/radio. The lyrics provide just enough to set your feet on, yet remain ambiguous enough to wonder about. I thought the video was rather interesting, as well. I eventually bought the cassette single. Looking back, it seems like a song about someone dealing with pain who doesn't know he is dealing with pain. At the time, I think I related with that.
